OUR STORY
Solomon’s Porch began on a beach.
On a beach in Jenison, a gathering of de-churched believers came together to say goodbye to a couple of young families who were leaving West Michigan to begin a youth ministry in Wisconsin. This group of people immediately realized there was an incredible sense of unity in worship between them, a strong sense of love among them and a feeling that God was calling them to worship Him together as a new church.
On Labor Day 2005, we began meeting at the White Church on School Street in Hudsonville as the Beach Church. We held worship services there for two years, renaming ourselves Freedom Fellowship Community Church. As we continued to grow in size, another step in the journey began: to find a Lead Pastor. It took over six months, began with over 200 names, over 50 interviews conducted, narrowed down to four leading candidates who visited Freedom Fellowship, and resulted with our call to Pastor David Cottrell and his family from Corona, Calif. The Cottrell’s accepted the call and Pastor David arrived in Hudsonville in January 2007.
With our spiritual leader in place, we, through extensive prayer, began to clarify God’s unique vision for the church. Part of that was a new name, Solomon’s Porch, and a search for a larger place to worship as the School Street location was severely limiting our ability to conduct our ministries due to it’s small size. Amazingly, by God’s blessings alone, we were able to purchase a large, wonderful church building at 1675 Baldwin Street in Jenison in September 2007. We currently worship at the Jenison location with a strengthening children’s ministry, an exploding teen ministry, an overpowering call to serve our new local community through service and example, and a desire to partner with organizations around the globe that exemplify Christ’s love for us.
We hope you join us!
